Marina del Rey, NY November 15, 2001 (ICB TOLL FREE NEWS) Among the revelations at this week's ICANN meeting in Marina del Rey, is the fact that VeriSign Global Registry Services operates the name servers and ancillary equipment at all 13 com/net/org name server sites, which are distributed throughout the world, as confirmed by VeriSign's Matt Larson.
Lends new credence to VeriSign CEO Stratton Sclavos' boast that ``We can take down the network.''
Ken Silva, VeriSign Director of Technical Services and Network Security, stated yesterday that "VeriSign’s servers are well-protected and reside in high quality data centers. No one person within VeriSign could cause catastrophic failure. VeriSign data resides at multiple locations."
But more significantly in today's environment, how hard would it be for moneyed terrorist interests to infiltrate VeriSign? There was no mention yesterday, of whether the company has done/continues to do security checks on its employees and contractors/vendors/visitors with access to its facilities.
